SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing esters of alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acids with high selectivity by alcoholysis of the corresponding alpha-hydroxycarboxamide in the gaseous phase over a heterogeneous catalyst, where molar ratio of alcohol to alpha-hydroxycarboxamide is 2–25 mol/mol, and conversion is carried out in presence of 0.01–10 mol / mol of water with respect to alpha-hydroxycarboxamide.
EFFECT: disclosed is a method for synthesis of esters of alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acids in gas phase.
