FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Multi-layer coating is applied. First, lower layer of nitride of titanium and silicon is applied at their ratio, wt. %: titanium 97.9–98.5, silicon 1.5–2.1. Then, an intermediate layer of nitride of titanium, silicon and chromium compound is applied at the following component ratio, wt. %: titanium 87.1–90.5, silicon 1.0–1.4, chromium 8.5–11.5. Then, an upper layer of titanium nitride is applied. Coating layers are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane, first of which is made of titanium and silicon alloy, second cathode is made of titanium and chromium and located opposite to first cathode, and third cathode is made of titanium and arranged between first and second cathodes. Lower layer is applied using first and third cathodes, intermediate layer – using all three cathodes, and upper layer – using third cathode.
EFFECT: increased functionality of cutting tool.
