FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: applying multi-layer coating is performed. First, the lower layer of titanium nitride is applied. Then, an intermediate layer of the nitride compound of titanium and silicon is applied at their ratio, wt %: titanium 98.0-98.4, silicon 1.6-2.0. Then the upper layer of the nitride compound of titanium, silicon and chromium is applied at their ratio, wt %: titanium 87.1-90.5, silicon 1.0-1.4, chromium 8.5-11.5. The coating layers are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. The first cathode is made of the titanium and aluminium alloy, the second cathode is made of titanium and zirconium and arranged opposite the first cathode, while the third cathode is made of the titanium and silicon alloy and arranged between the first and the second cathodes. The lower layer is applied using the third cathode, the intermediate layer - using the first and the third cathodes, and the upper layer - using all three cathodes.
EFFECT: increasing the cutting tool efficiency.
