FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic and petrochemical catalysis, particularly to a method of producing 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid – one of widely used monomers for making polymer materials. 3,5-xylenol is acylated with acetic anhydride in the presence of sulfuric acid at 70–75 °C while stirring for 25–35 minutes, acylated xylenol is extracted and oxidized with air oxygen in the presence of a catalyst – a mixture of cobalt acetate, sodium bromide and manganese acetate – at 100–110 °C for 4–5 hours. Method of producing 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid is carried out at temperature not higher than 110 °C from non-deficient raw materials in high yield.
EFFECT: disclosed is a method of producing 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid.
