FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of determining an insulation fault point, as well as to a system for determining an insulation fault for an ungrounded power supply system. Method comprises generating a periodic test current of a given maximum amplitude with a period having a variable duration. Said period of test current is formed from successive pulses of test current and pauses. Test current is supplied to ungrounded power supply system. Differential current is gripped in cable controlled section. Steady state of differential current and corresponding setting/decay time are determined. Final value of differential current in steady state is determined. It is checked whether the final value of the differential current exceeds the threshold value of the test current modulo. Time of setting/time of attenuation is transmitted to test current generator. Duration of the test current pulse and the duration of the pause of the test current as a function of the transmitted settling time/attenuation time are determined using a test current generator such that the differential current reaches its final value during the duration of the test current pulse/atest current pause duration. Specified maximum amplitude of the test current remains unchanged.

EFFECT: providing reliability and efficiency of high-impedance insulation fault location in combination with large leak-off vessels at safety.
