FIELD: lighting.

SUBSTANCE: horticultural lighting device for illuminating a plant comprises a lighting module with a plurality of lighting elements. Operation of the illumination module is limited by a plurality of discrete modes, in which light is emitted with different discrete spectral compositions by emitting light from the illumination elements in different predefined combinations. Said modes include a growth mode performed with a spectrum which promotes plant growth, and at least one control mode performed with a spectrum which controls another biological process of the plant, wherein at least one lighting element is configured to emit both in a growth mode and a control mode. Device further comprises a controller configured to switch the illumination module between the plurality of discrete modes. Controller is configured to switch lighting module between growth mode and said at least one control mode in different corresponding phases of daily cycle.

EFFECT: this device will allow to ensure reduced power consumption and associated cost reduction, as well as ease of use.
