FIELD: agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: in the method for increasing the nutritional value in the first plant part of an agriculture crop, the first plant part includes an edible plant part, and the agricultural crop, in addition to the first plant part, includes one or more other plant parts. The illumination during the illumination period for the enhanced formation of nutrients of the target part of said first plant part by horticultural light is preferably selected so as to increase the formation of a nutrient in the first plant part, allowing one or more other plant parts to be in other different lighting conditions, wherein the lighting period for the enhanced nutrient formation starts within a period of two weeks before harvesting the first plant part and where the first plant part, during the illumination period for the enhanced nutrient generation, receives light with a light distribution spectrum different by wavelengths and/or intensity as compared to one or more other plant parts. The lighting appliance includes a plurality of light sources arranged as a 2-dimensional plurality of light sources, wherein the 2-dimensional plurality of light sources includes a first subset of the light sources and a second subset of the light sources, and wherein the first subset and the second subset are individually adjustable. Wherein the device is additionally configured to provide, during the illumination period, for enhanced nutrient generation, horticultural light with a spectral light distribution with at least at light intensity at a first wavelength selected from the range of 300-475 nm and at a second wavelength selected from the range of 600-800 nm. During said lighting period for enhanced nutrient formation, the first subset of the light sources provides horticultural light with a higher intensity to one or more of said wavelength ranges than the second subset of the light sources. The lighting appliance additionally includes a sensor configured to determine the maturity of the first plant part of the agricultural crop and where the appliance is additionally configured to determine on this basis the start time of the illumination period for the enhanced formation of nutrients.
EFFECT: inventions allow to grow plants under optimal lighting conditions and to apply light to achieve additional nutritional value only during the last days before harvesting.
