SUBSTANCE: invention refers to biotechnology, microbiology. Disclosed is a strain of bacteria Arthrobacter psychrochitiniphilus ARC 42, capable of decomposition of oil and oil products and deposited in the Russian National Collection of Industrial Microorganisms under registration number VKPM As-2076. Strain of bacteria Arthrobacter psychrochitiniphilus VKPM As-2076 can be used for purification of water areas of water bodies, shoreline contaminated with oil and oil products at temperature from +20 to -2.5 °C and salinity 30±10 g/l in nutrient-poor conditions.
EFFECT: invention increases degree of cleaning water areas and shoreline water from contamination with oil and oil products.
