FIELD: machine building; metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and machine building and can be used for quenching of articles made from carbon and alloyed steels. To increase cooling efficiency and expand range of hardening of metal products cooling medium is supplied at specified distance from output of hardened item from deforming rollers at an angle to surface with specified flow rate of medium. Main amount of heat is collected at the outlet of the product due to preheating and evaporation of the liquid (water), wherein a water-air medium with air content of 10–20 % is used, which is supplied at distance of 0.15–0.3 m from the output of the quenched article from the deforming rollers at an angle to surface of 10–15 degrees at a flow rate of 250–330 cm3/s of medium and initial temperature (85–90) °C.
EFFECT: water supply with controlled air phase will allow to create cooling conditions of required intensity and cooling rate, which will considerably reduce cooling medium consumption and increase completeness of its thermophysical properties usage during tempering process.
