FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing (S)-2-acetyloxypropionic acid in a production apparatus which includes a rectification section (A) and a reaction section (B), wherein rectification section (A) includes upper part and lower part connected to said reaction section (B), wherein method includes the following stages: a. continuous supply of (S)-lactic acid aqueous solution to top of rectification section (A), where aqueous solution of (S)-lactic acid has concentration of less than 60 % (wt. %) of (S)-lactic acid; b. feeding acetic anhydride into reaction section (B); c. reaction of (S)-lactic acid with acetic anhydride in reaction section (B), which results in formation of (S)-2-acetyloxypropionic acid and acetic acid; d. evaporation of mixture of formed acetic acid and unreacted acetic anhydride from reaction section (B); that is, feeding the evaporated mixture from step d to rectification section (A) for removing water from aqueous solution of (S)-lactic acid, which is fed counter-current through said rectification section (A) into reaction section (B), thus a mixture of mainly anhydrous (S)-lactic acid and acetic acid enters the reaction section (B) from the bottom of the rectification section (A); f. separating (S)-2-acetyloxypropionic acid from reaction section (B); g. diluted aqueous solution of acetic acid is collected in upper part of rectification section (A). Invention also relates to a method of producing (S)-2-acetyloxypropionyl chloride, involving said steps of producing (S)-2-acetyloxypropionic acid and a step for reacting (S)-2-acetyloxypropionic acid with thionyl chloride.

EFFECT: disclosed is a method of producing (s)-2-acetyloxypropionic acid and derivatives thereof.
