SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to therapy, pulmonology, functional diagnostics, and can be used for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome diagnostics. An apnea / hypopnea index is evaluated and blood oxygen saturation is monitored during sleep. During monitoring, hypoxia values are determined: cumulative duration of desaturation <95 % during sleep and hypoxia load, which is calculated by mathematical division of cumulative duration of desaturation during sleep by sleep duration. If hypoxia load is more than 10 % with apnea/hypopnea index more than 5 per hour, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome with hypoxic respiratory failure is diagnosed.

EFFECT: method provides early detection of hypoxic respiratory failure accompanying the syndrome of obstructive sleep apnea (with an apnea/hypopnea index more than 5 per hour) and higher accuracy of diagnosing hypoxia by determining cumulative duration of all episodes of desaturation and assessing the load of hypoxia during sleep.
