FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of composite pigments containing aluminium hydroxide and their use to increase efficiency of light scattering of pigments in coatings, plastics, paper and laminar materials. Method of producing particles of a composite pigment which contains aluminium hydroxide employs an aqueous alkaline solution of sodium aluminate, characterized by a pH of at least 12. Then, particles of inorganic pigments are added to solution and pH is reduced to 3–8 for precipitation of aluminium hydroxide particles to form composite pigment particles. Further, final separation of composite particles is performed.

EFFECT: use of the composite pigment particles in accordance with the present invention enables to save the pigment with little loss or loss of optical properties, and with an unchanged pigment content, improved optical properties can also be achieved.
