SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an improved method of converting methyl acetate material and at least one of the following: water and methanol in the presence of at least one catalyst - Bronsted acid - zeolite or heteropolyacid with obtaining acetic acid, where in this method operating characteristics of catalyst or catalysts are improved, in which total amount of impurities of acetaldehyde and 1,1-dimethoxyethane in methyl acetate raw material is maintained equal to 100 wt. ppm or less with respect to mass equivalents of acetaldehyde and in which the methyl acetate stock is obtained from carbonylation methods of dimethyl ether with carbon monoxide gas in the presence of a zeolite carbonylation catalyst.
EFFECT: disclosed are improved catalytic characteristics in methods of producing acetic acid.
