FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a protected sheet or layer of lenses, suitable for use in a microoptical system, made of a plurality of connected frequent matrixes of lenses (for example, connected to frequent matrices of lenticular and/or non-cylindrical lenses). Each matrix has a lens pitch differing from adjoining or adjacent matrices, and/or is oriented in a direction different from adjoining or adjacent matrices. Invention also provides a microoptical protective device using the inventive protected lens sheet and one or more micrograph images (for example, linear data) lying above or below the image structures. Image icon structure(s) and the protected lens layer are configured such that the security device projects one or more synthetic images. Such projected images can exhibit a variety of different optical effects. With such a combined layer of lenses, some areas can be optically active when the device is tilted to one side, some can be active when tilted to the opposite side, and some areas can be active when the device is tilted to both (or any) side.
EFFECT: invented microoptical protective device can be partially included in and/or installed on surface of protected object (for example, paper or polymer protected document, label, card), or is built into it.
