FIELD: furnaces and ovens.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to heating of electric furnace. Method includes heating of electric furnace containing housing with refractory lining, made in form of cylindrical drum, in lower part of which there is filler from current-conducting powder of such materials as graphite, cryptol, refractory metals, electroconductive ceramics as a heating element, a working chamber and current-carrying electrodes, by means of which current is passed through current-conducting powder, at that, the drum is installed horizontally and continuous mixing and powder pouring is performed due to constant rotation of the furnace drum, which causes heat generation as a result of ohmic resistance of the powder material and creation of micro-arc discharges between separate grains of the powder.
EFFECT: possibility of heating up to 2000 degrees and higher, for example, in furnaces, in which reaction products react at high temperature on solid phase or in plasma of arc discharge, for example in process of thermal pyrolysis of methane.
