FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to linear internal combustion engines. Free-piston internal combustion engine, which comprises a first cylinder, comprising a combustion section, a second cylinder, comprising a drive section configured to provide compression operation during an engine compression stroke, piston assembly located between combustion section and drive section, wherein piston assembly is made with possibility of rectilinear movement, and a linear electromagnetic machine located between said cylinders and configured to directly convert the kinetic energy of the piston assembly to electrical energy and with possibility of direct conversion of electric energy into kinetic energy of piston assembly. Proposed engine is configured to work with compression ignition. There are offered several embodiments of free-piston internal combustion engine design.
EFFECT: higher efficiency of engine due to higher degree of compression.
