FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine building, particularly, to metal cutting, and can be used in making cutting tools from oxide-carbide ceramics. Method includes, after grinding operation, a pulse laser modification of contact sections of ceramic plates with formation of strengthening chamfer with length of 0.3–0.35 mm, angle of 20…22° and edges rounding to radius of 0.09 mm at radiation intensity of 36.7 J/cm2, pulse repetition frequency 70 kHz, pitch between pulses 20–30 mcm and number of passes 300. After pulse laser modification on surface of ceramic plates by method of plasma-chemical gas-phase deposition diamond-like coating with thickness of 2.5–3 mcm is applied in plasma of glow discharge by starting chemical reaction and discharge destruction of gas mixture of acetylene C2H2 with volume fraction of 90 %, argon Ar with volume fraction of 8 % and tetramethylsilane Si(CH3)4 with volume fraction of 2 %.

EFFECT: improving properties of surface layer of oxide-carbide ceramics, providing high wear resistance and minimizing cases of brittle fracture of cutting part of ceramic plates during milling of hardened steels and heat-resistant alloys at increased feeds.
