FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing formaldehyde from methanol, comprising a step of feeding into a reactor a feed stream comprising said methanol and an oxygen-containing gas; reacting said methanol in gaseous phase with said oxygen-containing gas in said reactor in the presence of a catalyst containing iron and molybdenum oxides, and containing alkali (alkali-earth) metal; additional step of adding water to said feed stream.
EFFECT: technical result is reduction of formation of undesirable by-products, in particular yield of dimethyl ether.
