FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to cutting machining of parts from non-dielectric materials and can be used for diagnosing state of cutting tool equipped with replaceable cutting plates from non-dielectric material along main rear surface. Method includes formation of electric potential in electric circuit operating on the principle of semi-artificial thermocouple, which includes cutting plate and processed billet, by the origin of which maximum permissible wear is determined. At that three-layer coating with dielectric outer layers and current-conducting central layer are placed on support and rear surface of cutting plate with due allowance for value of maximum permissible wear, which is included in electric circuit to generate said electric potential.
EFFECT: use of the invention allows extending the technological capabilities of the method for diagnosing the condition of the cutting instrument and improving diagnosis reliability.
