SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for determining content of menthol in a composition of a traditional Chinese medicinal agent. A method of determining menthol content in a composition of a traditional Chinese medicinal agent consisting of: Fructus Forsythia, Flos Lonicerae, Radix Isatidis, Semen Armeniacae Amarum, menthol, Herba Houttuyniae, rheum, Herba Pogostemonis, Rhizoma Dryopteris Crassirhizomae, Rhodiola rosea L., Herba Ephedrae, Radix Glycyrrhizae, and gypsum, includes: 1) extraction of a composition of a traditional Chinese medicinal agent using a non-polar solvent to obtain an analyzed solution; 2) obtaining a reference solution using a menthol-containing comparison compound of a nonpolar solvent, same as step 1); 3) determination by means of gas chromatography of menthol content in analyzed sample and comparison solution, wherein chromatography conditions are as follows: weakly polar capillary chromatographic column; column initial temperature 80–100 °C; said temperature is maintained for 10–15 minutes, then increased to 120–160 °C at rate of 6–10 °C per minute, maintained for 1.5–3.5 minutes, then increased to 240–300 °C with speed 100–160 °C per minute and maintained for 5–20 minutes.
EFFECT: efficient method of determining menthol in a composition of a traditional Chinese medicinal agent by gas chromatography.
