FIELD: measurement technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to investigation of materials by determining their physical properties, specifically determination of surface tension of liquid metals. Method for determining surface tension of molten metal involves measuring maximum pressure in droplet formed on horizontal section of vertically arranged capillary, by measuring the height of a metal melt column in a manometric vessel in communication with the capillary relative to the horizontal section of the capillary, at which the melt is forced through the capillary, at that height of meniscus formed by analyzed melt in manometric vessel of known diameter is additionally measured to take into account effect of melt surface curvature in manometric vessel on measurement results.

EFFECT: high accuracy of measurements and low consumption of analyzed materials.
