FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to application of wear-resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Vacuum plasma sandwiched coating is applied. First, bottom ply of niobium nitride is applied. Then upper layer of nitride of niobium, titanium and zirconium compound is applied at their ratio, wt%: niobium 59.0, titanium 26.5–31.5, zirconium 9.5–14.5. Coating layers are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane, the first and second of which are made of niobium and are located opposite to each other, and third is made of composite of titanium and zirconium and placed between them, wherein lower layer is applied using first and second cathodes, and upper layer is using said three cathodes.
EFFECT: reduced time of application of coating and increased serviceability of cutting tool with multilayer coating.
