FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to application of wear-resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Vacuum plasma sandwiched coating is applied. First, bottom layer of niobium nitride is applied. Then upper layer of nitride of niobium, titanium, zirconium and aluminum is applied at their ratio, wt%: niobium 43.7, titanium 16.5, zirconium 38.0, aluminum 1.8. Coating layers are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane, the first of which is made of niobium, the second one is made of niobium, titanium and aluminum alloy and is located opposite to the first one, and the third one is made of zirconium and placed between them. Lower layer is applied using the first cathode, and the upper layer is applied using all three cathodes.
EFFECT: higher efficiency of cutting tool with multilayer coating.
