METHOD FOR TREATING DOGS WITH INTRAHEPATIC VASCULAR SHUNTS USING UNIVERSAL CAVA FILTER AND EMBOLIZING SPIRALS Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC A61B6/00 A61M25/00

Abstract RU 2717074 C1

FIELD: veterinary medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to veterinary science, namely to veterinary surgery. Vessel port 14 French is implanted under general anaesthesia in jugular vein of animal. Under X-ray control with frequency of 8–15 frames per second, a caudal hollow vein is catheterised and a cavitation is performed to measure its internal pressure below and above the portosystemic shunt. Intrahepatic portosystemic shunt is catheterised and its internal pressure is measured. If the pressure gradient in the caudal vena cava and the portosystemic shunt exceeds 10 %, the cava filter is implanted into a straight segment of the shunt with diameter of at least 2.5 cm. Cava filter diameter should be 1.3–1.5 of the shunt diameter. For cavitation filter implantation in the portosystemic shunt the delivery device is introduced with diameter of 10 French, after positioning of which it is necessary to displace the delivery system back by 0.5–1 cm, after which the delivery device is replaced with an angiographic catheter with diameter 4–5 French for repeated pressure measurement. If pressure exceeds 12 cm of water column, an additional implantation of the embolizing spiral is not performed. If there is no pressure increase, an embolizing spiral with diameter of 15 mm is additionally introduced. Increase of pressure to 12–14 cm of water column indicates partial occlusion of portosystemic shunt.

EFFECT: method enables recovering haemodynamics in the liver by reducing thrombocyte aggregation on the surface of an embolizing spiral and a cava filter for 3–4 days to reduce current through a shunt.
