FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to low-gas compositions used for self-contained heaters intended for heating of food, water, curing of rubber articles, removal of thermal stresses in welded seams without damage of heated material in field conditions. Exothermic composition for the heating element contains finely dispersed zirconium, calcium carbonate as an oxidant and additionally asbestos. Composition contains components in the following ratio, wt%: zirconium 68–80, calcium carbonate 20–32, asbestos 2–3 in excess of 100 %.

EFFECT: invention increases heat of combustion of exothermic composition for heating element from 17 % to 28 %, and fraction of condensed phase from 3 % to 25 %, wherein it is reliably ignited and burns at constant rate of 5±0,1 mm/s.
