LUBRICATING COMPOSITION FOR DRILLING MUD Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC C09K8/00

Abstract RU 2724248 C1

FIELD: oil, gas and coke-chemical industries.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to drilling of oil, gas and geological prospecting wells, in particular, to water-based drilling muds. To increase durability of rock cutting and drilling tools, to increase drilling parameters and to prevent tack-on complications in water-based drilling mud, lubricant compositions are introduced. Lubricating composition for drilling mud contains tall oil fatty acid and fatty acids surfactants, wherein it additionally contains as surfactants a mixture of Laprol 5003-2B10 and Bixol dissolved in spent mineral transformer oil, with the following ratio of components, wt. %: distillates of fatty acids of tall oil DGK and LTM or mixture thereof - 17.8–24.0; Laprol 5003-2-B10 - 4.2–6.0; Bixol - 2.0–6.0; spent mineral transformer oil is the balance. Set of operational and process properties of the proposed lubricant composition for drilling mud solutions on water indicates their complex improvement in the presence of a mixture of surfactants: 0.7–3.0 pts.wt. Laprol 5003-2-B10 with 1.0 pts.wt. Bixol dissolved in waste mineral oil. Friction coefficient of metal-metal pair is reduced in comparison with prototype and analogues by more than 2 times, efficiency of lubricating action is improved in 1.6–2.0 times, and coefficient of surface tension on boundary of oil-water is reduced in 10.0–15.0 times. Abnormally low flow temperature of the disclosed lubricant composition enables to use it at ambient temperature of minus 40 °C, which is of great importance when drilling wells in winter in northern regions of Russia, since known lubricating compositions and analogues can be used only at higher temperatures up to minus 18 °C. Disclosed composition has a sufficiently high dispersibility coefficient in water (Kd = 6–7), and coefficient of friction of metal-filtering crust pair at zenith angle of 3° when using disclosed lubricant composition is reduced 1.6–2.0 times, which considerably reduces power consumption for drilling and increases service life of drilling tool.

EFFECT: proposed composition does not contain scarce and expensive ingredients, and its preparation takes place at room temperature for 15–20 minutes and simplified equipment design process, which reduces its cost in 1_6–2_0 times.
