SUBSTANCE: aerosol generating device determines the flow path from the air inlet to the outlet for the inhaled medium. This device comprises a reservoir for containing liquid; wick for drawing fluid from the reservoir into the flow path and a heating element which is located upstream relative to the wick and which is configured to heat incoming air from the air inlet for the purpose of generating, when used, a stream of heated air in the flow path. Device is designed so that, during use, flow of heated air generated during use passes above wick for evaporation of liquid in order to generate, when used, aerosol flow in flow path. Proposed device comprises intake section arranged in flow path downstream relative to wick and arranged to position aerosol flow property element. Also described is a device which comprises a protective element for protecting the wick from the heating element.
