FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular, to production of steels with lowered (LH) and regulated hardenability (RH) in open-hearth, electric-arc, induction furnaces and oxygen converters. Proposed method comprises loading of charge into melt aggregates from iron-carbon alloy, scrap with specified content of manganese, silicon, chrome, nickel, copper; content of each of them is expanded compared to known methods of steel making RH and LH, which simplifies the process.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to strictly comply with the specified chemical composition of RH and LH steel by content of carbon and value of ideal critical diameter of quenching (D id_cr_) at preset size of actual austenite grain to be obtained during final thermal treatment of parts.
