SUBSTANCE: invention relates to information retrieval, more specifically to a method and a system for generating a feature for ranking at least one document in response to a request. Method and system of ranking a document in response to a request, wherein the document has no value for the feature relative to the request. Set of documents relevant to the request is generated. Document is selected and a set of past requests which represent the document as a search result is extracted. Relevant values for said feature for the document are retrieved relative to the set of past requests. Corresponding similarity parameter is determined between the request and each of the set of past requests. Value of said feature for the document is generated based at least in part on the corresponding similarity parameter and corresponding value for said feature of at least one past request. Set of documents, including said document, is ranked based at least in part on said feature.

EFFECT: technical result is improvement of search results set ranking.
