FIELD: computer technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of computer technology for determination of ranked positions of elements by a ranking system. During a phase of training of the ranking system, and indication of user interactions related to the first ranked list of elements is received. Elements of the first ranked list are visually displayed on the first search engine results page (hereinafter – SERP). An assessment for the first element of content is determined based on a size of the first element of content and ranking of the first element of content. Based on this assessment, the ranking system is trained to predict a predicted utility assessment for the first element of content. During a phase of using the ranking system, a ranked list of elements is determined based on a request. The ranking system determines a ranked position for an element of content in the ranked list. SERP is generated based on the ranked list.
EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of placement of elements on SERP.
