SUBSTANCE: invention relates to elevator mechanics, namely, to methods of safe operation of elevators. When implementing the method of mechanically locking elevator cabin movement with open cabin doors using the catchers mechanism, the speed limiter cable is fixed from the side, free of catchers and moving in opposite motion of cabin relative to cabin when doors are opened, and after doors are closed, fixation is stopped. Device for mechanical blocking movement of cabin with open cab doors consists of elevator limiter located on elevator car, located on the side free from catchers, and moving from this side in opposite direction of cabin movement, and retainer drive mechanism. Mechanism of retainer drive contains lever fixed on cabin with possibility of interaction by one arm with locking mechanism, and by another - with roller fixed by means of bracket on door leaf of cabin of elevator.

EFFECT: inventions provide higher safety during operation of elevators.
