SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering and can be used for starting powerful synchronous motors, for example, electric motors of cold rolling mill. In device for starting powerful synchronous motors actuator 3 is represented by three direct current generators, starting electric motor 1 is rigidly fixed on shaft of main electric motor 2, starting electric motor 1 and three direct current generators 3 enter first 7, second 8, third 9 and fourth 10 electromechanical complexes, respectively, which are generator-DC motor system, main electric motor 2 is included into the fifth electromechanical complex 11, said five electromechanical systems 7-11 are included in the first electromechanical system 12, similar electromechanical complexes 7-11 are included in the second electromechanical system 13.
