FIELD: agriculture.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to agriculture, in particular to selection and can be used in making varieties with high nitrogen-fixing capacity. Method includes sampling by amount of nitrogen-fixing tuber nodules by counting them. Plants of selection samples of clover or alfalfa are placed square-nesting method and when emergence of sprouts one most advanced plant is left in the nest for further selection assessment, comparing it with standard zoned variety in the same nursery. In the budding-blooming phase, protein content in leaves is determined for 4–5 internodes in clover and 6–7 internodes in lucerne, number of active nitrogen-fixing nodules is counted, noting fast growth of leaves of overground mass of plants after striking, with subsequent taking into account all parameters. Correlation dependencies between the number of nodules and rate of regrowth are determined, as well as between protein content in leaves and number of viable nodules in each culture studied. Maximum value of protein content in the leaves, compared to the standard strain, is used to determine nitrogen-fixing capacity correlating with the maximum number of nodules and rate of growth after sting.

EFFECT: method simplifies selection of highly productive plants with high nitrogen-fixing capacity.
