SUBSTANCE: apparatus for forming an upper edge of a cardboard container includes a pocket including a shell having a cavity with a neck, configured to receive container along axis, so that rim extends beyond neck. Workstation includes a forming element having a first shaping surface, which is actuated to an axis from a retracted position spaced from the rim, to an extended position lying adjacent to the upper end of the rim, and forming a segment having a second shaping surface, which is driven along the axis and the forming element in response to its axial movement, so that the second forming surface is located at a distance from the lower end of the rim. Second forming surface is driven along axis in direction of first forming surface to form rim between them.
EFFECT: apparatus and method for flattening a rim are disclosed.
