SUBSTANCE: proposed group of inventions relates to the field of medicine. Proposed is the use of lactoferrin from a subject's saliva for the diagnosis or prediction of Alzheimer's disease, with the lactoferrin concentration of less than 7.43 μg /ml being indicative of Alzheimer's disease. A method for diagnosing and predicting Alzheimer's disease in a subject having symptoms of a neurological disease in which the concentration of lactoferrin in saliva of less than 7.43 mcg/ml is an indicator of Alzheimer's disease is proposed. A set is proposed for implementing a method for diagnosing or predicting Alzheimer's disease, including at least one container containing a reagent represented by a lactoferrin-specific antibody for determining the quantitative content of lactoferrin in the saliva or saliva sample of the subject, instructions for use and a normal range for determining the increased or decreased content of lactoferrin in comparison with the cut-off point value of 7.43 mcg/ml, indicative of Alzheimer's disease.
