SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the cosmetic industry and relates to a system for strengthening or protecting hair. The proposed system for strengthening or protecting hair shafts contains monoethanolamine, at least one acid selected from citric acid, malonic acid or their salts, at least one cosmetically acceptable solvent and optionally at least one cationic polymer, and monoethanolamine is present in an amount from 3 wt % up to 6 wt %, the acid is present in an amount from 7 wt % up to 25 wt % relative to the total weight of the composition. Based on or using this system, a cosmetic composition for changing hair color is proposed, including an oxidizing composition and optionally a dye, methods for treating keratinous substrates such as hair shafts, a set for changing hair color containing an oxidizing composition and a coloring component, a hair curling set, containing a curling solution and a neutralizing liquid, a hair straightening kit containing a straightener composition and a neutralizing liquid, a hair straightening method further comprising applying heat to the hair or a straightening composition.

EFFECT: proposed system, composition, kits and methods are effective for strengthening and protecting hair from damage during chemical treatment.
