SUBSTANCE: according to the first aspect, an internal combustion engine of a piston design is described with an intake valve (3) located in the cylinder head (1) of the cylinder block (2), through which the air required for combustion can be supplied from the intake pipeline (4) connected to the intake valve (3) to the cylinder (2) with a hydraulic or pneumatic accumulator (5), from which an additional combustion support medium in the cylinder (2) can be supplied to the cylinder (2) with control, and with a fuel injection nozzle (7), through which fuel can be injected into the cylinder (2). In addition, the medium according to the invention is a mixture of air required for combustion and fuel. The hydraulic or pneumatic accumulator (5) is connected to the fuel injection nozzle (7) having a needle (6), and the additional medium can be directed to the cylinder (2) by means of the fuel injection nozzle (7) with control. According to the second aspect of the invention, a method is described for the additional introduction of an additional medium supporting combustion in the cylinder of an internal combustion engine into the cylinder of an engine with progressively moving pistons, and the medium is supplied through a fuel injection nozzle.
