FIELD: nuclear reactors.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of technologies for the utilization of radiolytic gas in solution nuclear reactors and can be used to create methods for ensuring the safe operation of a nuclear reactor (hereinafter - NR) and purifying a vapor-gas mixture to a concentration of hydrogen. The method of converting a hydrogen-containing medium in a catalytic unit involves passing a flow through a catalyst layer with the oxidation of hydrogen to water. In the NR, in which the fuel solution in the form of uranyl sulfate, acidified to a pH in the range of 0.5-2.0, is irradiated with a neutron flux, radiolysis occurs in the fuel solution to produce byproducts of hydrogen and oxygen, which are sent to the above-fuel space. Then, under the influence of an air compressor, the vapor-gas mixture is sent through the cooling system to a catalytic unit with a platinum-palladium catalyst located in it, in the form of a thin layer deposited on the surface of ceramic granules made of aluminum oxide as a catalyst carrier, where hydrogen is recombined into water, which is then sent to the initial above-fuel space of the NR.
EFFECT: invention provides possibility of a more stable and safe operation of a nuclear reactor (NR).
