SUBSTANCE: system and a method for improving the efficiency of natural gas liquefaction processes by using a hybrid method and a cooling system are proposed. In particular, a system and a method for converting a transcritical refrigeration process into a subcritical process are proposed. In one embodiment, the refrigerant is cooled down to a critical temperature using an economizer. In another embodiment, the refrigerant is cooled down to a critical temperature using an auxiliary heat exchanger. In some cases, the use of the economizer or auxiliary heat exchanger can be avoided when the ambient temperature is low enough to cool the refrigerant down to a subcritical temperature. In another embodiment, the refrigerant expands isentropically.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of natural gas liquefaction processes.
