SUBSTANCE: method includes basing and securing the workpiece in a vise and subsequent processing. The basing of the workpiece is carried out at its base with the overhang of the processed surface above the clamping jaws of the vise by 1.2-2.0 from the cutting depth, and the workpiece is clamped with a force of 0.8-1.2 from the value of the cutting force during planing. The vise for implementing the method consists of a housing with a fixed jaw, a movable jaw mounted on the housing guides, and a screw for moving the movable jaw with a nut located in the housing. They are equipped with a workpiece basing mechanism containing a carriage mounted on the housing guides, a hollow screw installed in the carriage with a spring-loaded bushing with a horizontal surface for basing the workpiece placed in it, and a workpiece overhang limiting mechanism containing a rotary carriage with a movable stop for setting the workpiece overhang installed in a cylindrical guide on a rod placed on the body, and carriage clamps. In this case, the screw for moving the movable jaw is made with a spherical support surface interacting with the support connected to the movable jaw by two curvilinear plate springs connected at one end with the support body, and at the other end with guides made in the movable jaw.

EFFECT: elimination of a defect when processing the border of two surfaces in the form of a chamfer-chip and increased productivity by reducing to a minimum the time for basing, setting the overhang and ensuring the clamping force of the workpiece in the vise in the recommended range.
