SUBSTANCE: invention relates to protective afforestation, in particular to methods of landscaping disturbed during the development of land quarries. The method for forest reclamation of steep slopes of mined-out quarries of mineral deposits includes the arrangement of horizontal excavation-fill terraces, their plowing and planting of seedlings of trees and shrubs on them. After the natural compaction of the soil of the bulk parts of the terraces, a partial filling of the terraced slope with fertile loose overburden soil or soil of the edge strip is carried out. Then, by repeated terracing, the sequential restoration of the terraces covered with soil is carried out, starting from the upper one, leaving a layer of fertile soil 15–20 cm on the canvas of each terrace, which provides an increase in the survival rate and acceleration of the growth of seedlings of woody plants and shrubs planted on them. When arranging terraces, the width of the strips of inter-terrace slopes, which take the angle of repose while maintaining the average steepness of the entire slope, is calculated depending on the grain-size distribution using the formula, where b is the distance between the inter-terrace sections of the slope, l is the distance between the axes of the terraces, d is the width of the terrace, cosψ - cosine of the angle of repose.

EFFECT: invention increases efficiency of the method for forest reclamation of steep slopes of worked-out pits, ensuring an increase in the survival rate and accelerating the growth of seedlings of woody plants and shrubs planted on them.
