FIELD: computing technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computing technology and telecommunication networks and can be used for parametric estimation of the distribution laws of multi-packet message flows circulating in data transmission networks (DTNs) and estimation of the state of networks in general. The apparatus comprises input amplifiers, to the inputs whereof binary pulse sequences of incoming and serviced messages are supplied from the service centres of the DTN, respectively, a unit for forming estimates of the intensity of the message flow, a unit for forming estimates of the intensity of message service, a unit for calculating the ratios of information lengths of packets and messages, a unit for determining the type of flow distribution, a first arithmetic and logical apparatus, a control unit, a second arithmetic and logical apparatus, and a third arithmetic and logical apparatus.

EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of estimation of the intensity of the message flow in a minimum required number of examination steps and a provided estimation of the state of the data transmission network in general.
