FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an initiator system based on Brensted-Lowry acid for the cation polymerization of ethylene-type unsaturated monomer, to a method for producing polymer, where the method includes the polymerization of one or more ethylene-type unsaturated monomers with the participation of the initiator system, and a compound with the structure of the Formula (I). The initiator system includes an initiator having the structure of the Formula (I) in an anhydrous polymerization medium, where M is tantalum (Ta), vanadium (V) or niobium (Nb); each R1 is OR6, where R6 is H; R2, R3, R4 and R5 are the same or different, and are independently H, F, Cl, Br, I, C1-4 alkyl or phenyl, provided that all substituents from R2, R3, R4 and R5 on the same benzene ring are not H; L is alkyl ester or cycloalkyl ester that coordinates with H+; and x is 2.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention consists in obtaining initiator systems for the cation polymerization, which can allow obtaining polymer with suitably high molecular weight at higher temperatures.
