SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a device and a method for controlling vessels that tow cargo. A vessel has a block at the aft end through which at least one tow rope passes. The block is made with the possibility of moving transversely along the longitudinal axis or in the longitudinal direction of the vessel. The position of the movable block determines the point of the tension force application of the tow rope. An autopilot is connected to an actuator that moves the specified block to change the moment of force relatively to the point of the vessel rotation, and the autopilot also has a computing unit that determines the tension force and calculates the moment of force on the vessel. The autopilot can then use the change in the specified moment of force to control the vessel.
EFFECT: reduction in the fuel consumption of the trawler during trawling is achieved.
