FIELD: nuclear technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a system for nuclear fusion. The system is equipped with a muon generator 1, gas supply means 2 for circulation and supply of source gas, a Laval nozzle 3 accelerating the source gas to a supersonic speed, and a shock wave generator 4. In the shock wave generator, the source gas accelerated to a supersonic speed by means of the Laval nozzle 3 is used by means of the shock wave generator 4 to form oblique shock waves. Convergence of the oblique shock waves on the central axis of the Laval nozzle 3 is ensured for retaining a high-density gas target in space. Muons formed by the muon generator 1 are introduced into the high-density gas target to trigger a nuclear fusion reaction.

EFFECT: reduction in the requirements pertaining to apparatuses for retaining and cooling the target, as well as creation of a system and method for reducing the life of nuclides in transmutation thereof.
