FIELD: chemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the chemical industry, in particular to methods for removing and disposing of sulfur dioxide from gas streams, for example, flue gases of heating and other heating plants. A method for purifying a gas stream from sulfur dioxide includes feeding a gas stream containing sulfur dioxide through at least one container filled with an absorbing medium — a calcium fluoride suspension saturated with oxygen. In this case, the molar ratio between the content of calcium fluoride and oxygen is in the range of 1:15÷1:5. The by-products formed in the oxidation process (sulfuric acid) are separated from the absorbing medium, and the spent calcium fluoride is regenerated by saturation with oxygen and the saturated suspension is recycled into the process. The catalytic oxidation process is carried out at a temperature of 10-25°C and atmospheric pressure.
EFFECT: ensuring the possibility of carrying out the method of purification from sulfur dioxide at room temperature and atmospheric pressure.
