FIELD: sealing technology.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a sealing system for a pump configured to pump a volatile liquid, such as liquid ammonia. The sealing system includes an oil seal box forming a barrier chamber and a seal chamber on the pump side, a mechanical seal placed in the barrier chamber, and a barrier gas supply system for supplying barrier gas to the barrier chamber. The barrier gas has a pressure exceeding the pressure of the volatile liquid in the sealing chamber on the pump side. The sealing chamber on the pump side is located between the pump impeller and the mechanical seal.
EFFECT: barrier gas supply system includes a pressure control valve configured to maintain a constant difference between pressure in the barrier chamber and pressure in the sealing chamber on the pump side.
