FIELD: petroleum industry.
SUBSTANCE: method for extracting petroleum from an underground formation includes injecting an aqueous solution of a nonionic surface-active agent - ethoxylated alcohol into the formation and extracting petroleum from the underground formation. The method involves using ethoxylated alcohol by the general formula
wherein n is a number from 82 to 87; R1 constitutes a hydrocarbon group containing from 12 to 14 carbon atoms. The hydrophilic-lipophilic balance HLB of said ethoxylated alcohol has a value greater than 18.8. Water in the aqueous solution has a total amount of dissolved salts of up to 250,000 mg/l. The content of said ethoxylated alcohol in the solution is from 0.01 to 40.00% wt.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of impact on a carbonate or terrigenous formation under conditions of high temperatures and salinity.
