FIELD: audio encoding.
SUBSTANCE: claimed group of inventions relates to speech/audio encoding, and in particular to a method and a device for formatting payload for data transmission of a multimode speech/audio codec. The method includes deciding, whether a payload format is used without a header or with a header to transmit an encoded frame. The solution is based on a codec mode and necessary functionality. Payload data is packaged with or without the payload header, depending on the solution.
EFFECT: providing an effective RTP payload format for the multi-mode speech/audio codec containing at least two modes of operation, one of which can interact with the codec that has already been put into operation by existing legacy equipment.
