FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to production of steel grinding balls. Method of heat treatment of steel balls includes cooling of balls from temperature of hot forming to temperature below point of phase transformations Ar1, then balls heating to quenching temperature, quenching cooling in water from quenching temperature to temperature below point of beginning of martensitic transformation Mn in rotating quenching drum, the working surface of which is formed by supply pipes, with the balls washing with water. During quenching cooling, balls are provided with helical movement in feed pipes along helical guides made in the form of helical surfaces. Then balls are tempered. Also disclosed is a device for hardening steel balls.
EFFECT: technical result consists in obtaining balls of stable high quality, with high plastic properties and high wear resistance.
